Olusegun Ishmael, MD, MBA (Founder and Chief Medical Officer)
Dr. Ishmael has served the medical community for over 20 years. He received his medical degree from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria, residency training in family medicine (Gary, IN), academic fellowship (UNC Chapel Hill, NC) and an MBA (Purdue, IN). He served as president of the NMA of Northwest Indiana. He has worked in academic, hospital and health insurance settings. He has been faculty of a residency/medical school, hospital department chair (Family Practice and Emergency Department), and co-chaired a hospital's quality improvement committee. He has served as medical director, vice president medical affairs, and as an interim plan president for several health plans/insurers. He has worked as a family physician (covering everything from deliveries to geriatric care), urgent care and emergency department physician (from a high volume urban ER to lower volume rural ERs).
Dr. Ishmael espouses the true definition of a “dreamer”. He came to the United States at age 4 with his family from Nigeria not speaking a single word of English. His parents are immigrants that came to the US for college. He grew up in Chicago’s inner city Southside community of Roseland and is an early product of Chicago Public Schools’ gifted program. Dr. Ishmael’s parents focused their children on education and the patriarch became a college educator in Nigeria, where Dr. Ishmael would complete high school and ultimately continue on to medical school. Dr. Ishmael has kept his finger on the pulse of the underserved, and is committed to addressing healthcare inequities, increasing acceptance and graduation rates of minorities in medical school and making Chicago an incubator for telemedicine.
He is a loving father of three wonderful children, a car enthusiast and an avid chess player. He is a staunch Chicago Bulls fan, and as a Southsider he is a Chicago White Sox fan, but still enjoys the north side Cubbies.
